I Saw The Sun

In the midst of war for freedoms birth.
Our world seemed to come undone.
But my child tied a yellow ribbon,
And in that motion, saw the sun.

America forgot we stand united,
And they laid down in the streets.
As our boys fought side by side,
So that other’s might know peace.

I began to feel quite small.
And deeply wished to run.
When had the America I once knew,
Retreated from the sun?

They took our flag and lit it up,
In a protest that had such cost.
Perhaps they thought that once it burned,
They’d find the light that they had lost.

So in every place I find this gloom,
I leave some magic to be spun.
In a tiny golden bow of pride,
So that you might see the sun.
