My Mother My Friend

I never knew the words to say,
But I prayed you always knew.
Through precious words that I held within.,
That would allow my feelings through.
You've given time, when it was scarce,
And had so little for yourself.
You placed my needs within your hand,
Not upon some distant shelf.
You held me close when I was small,
When I had simply skinned my knee.
Although I fell so many times,
You were never far from me.
Never tiring of my tears,
You dried for me, each one.
Taking from me, my darkest nights,
You gave to me your sun.
For all the moments that we shared,
And the secret times we spend,
You gave to me a mother's trust,
And became my dearest friend.
